ICT Solution Design, Data Driven Decision Making and Data Management

Creative and applicable data in a global world

The seminar debates new forms of research and project format for ICT4D (Information and Communication Technology for Development, UN headline). Point of departure is Bangladeshi social enterprise mPower’s ground breaking work reaching 2.5 million beneficiaries throughout the world, as well as University of Copenhagen’s experience with Africa’s first telepsychiatric system in The Horn of Africa, Somaliland, 2009-2011, run by health professionals in the Somali diaspora in Northern Europe.

A key word for the seminar is Human and Context Centered ICT services design and data management for end use in terms of project management, economic facilitation and assessment of quality etc. Added to this a debate on the applicability of new ideas such as crowd sourcing and dissemination of diasporic knowledge for the developing South.

Diasporic use of computing, data, communication, i.e. as mediation, communication, knowledge sharing and experience, from the daily telephone call from North to South, to remittance systems based on smart phones and other digital solutions can be seen as data management of connectivity, in technical, social and cultural senses, included new solutions to knowledge transfer and knowledge dissemination through crowd sourcing. It is thus an interesting prospective research venue, which has to do with how to creatively design with connectivity and data management in a migratory context, which may not only harness resources for the South but also open new ways to understand migratory globalization in the North.

The seminar will be conducted by Hasib Ahsan, ICT Head of Operations, mPower Social Enterprises Ltd. and Anders Michelsen, Associate Professor, UCPH, head of design of Africas first telepsychiatric system, 2010-2012 in Somaliland.

Panels will include specialist from The Horn of Africa.

Programme is to be announced medio April.
