Statehood and Citizenship in the Late Hellenistic and Early Roman Periods

Guest lecture by Professor Giovanni Salmeri, University of Pisa.

Professor Salmeri will discuss the transfer of behaviours and customs in the late Hellenistic and early Roman periods.

In the Late Hellenistic and Roman periods Greek Cities underwent important transformations deriving from their integration into great structures of imperial type. This did not mean the end of political life, as is usually thought, but it brought new boundary lines between the public and private spheres. In this presentation Giovanni Salmeri will discuss these transfers of behaviours and customs from the public to the private sphere.
