Sides of a multifaceted relation: Associations as recipients of endowments

Guest lecture by Assistant Professor Sophia Aneziri (University of Athens).

In Ancient Greece, endowments for associations could come in the form of land, or of money to be invested to generate permanent income. The donors were mostly members or even officials of the associations. In the family association, donors appear as the founders of the associations. The main purpose of the endowments was to keep alive the memory of the donor and of the donor's family.
