Space, Place and History: Adventures in the GeoHumanities

Lecture by Dr. Leif Isaksen, Lancaster University.

This lecture approaches the GeoHumanities from two angles: what can the latest spatial technologies allow us to discover about geographic thought and representation in the past? And do those historical developments have anything to tell us about how we might approach the spatial Humanities in the future?

In addressing these questions we will encounter several examples of geographic innovation from Antiquity, including Claudius Ptolemy’s Manual for World-drawing, and the Peutinger Map, as well as some of the latest trends in the digital humanities.
