Gay Pride, Queer Shame: The Politics of ACT UP’s Affective History

Lecture by Associate Professor Erin Rand, Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, and Affiliated Professor, LGBT Studies, Syracuse University, USA.

Rooted in contemporary rhetorical theory and criticism, her work also draws upon critical theory, cultural studies, and queer and feminist theories, with an eye both to understanding the rhetorics of social change and rethinking the rhetorical tradition. She is particularly interested in recent forms of queer, feminist, and global justice activism, and is currently engaged in projects that theorize collectivity and rhetorical violence in relation to activist practices.
