Workshop about the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) and try practically
applying the framework categories to your own courses. This workshop will allow you to develop your own
action plan for digital competencies development in your institution as well as supply you with more tools to
support teachers in developing their digital teaching skills, with a focus on HE. Higher Education Institutions
(HEIs) across Europe are challenged by digital transformation and the need for more digital competencies for
teachers. However, teachers at HEIs are still primarily hired and rewarded for their research. Therefore, the
development of digital teaching skills is often a slow process that relies on individual initiatives-.
The DigCompEdu framework provides educators and organizations with a systematic approach to develop
digital competencies and foster their students’ digital literacy. Using the DigCompEdu Framework can be a way
to create change at an institutional level. The framework can provide a common language where we can
compare, what the opportunities for future professional development might be. It identifies 6 useful categories
of activity relevant to teaching in a digital context, which are divided into a list of specific competences. The
framework also provides a set of proficiency levels. This workshop is based on the outcomes and work of the
ongoing EU project (KA2) "Competencies for Universities - using Technology in Education" (CUTE) aims to
develop;
1. A strategy at an institutional level to improve digital competencies for university teaching, and
2. A methodology for other institutions to do the same based on the European Framework for Digital
Competence for Educators (DigCompEdu).
