FAQ about the GPA calculation sheet
How does the GPA calculator work?
The GPA calculator works by calculating the difference between the lowest passing grade and the highest grade, and not by calculating the difference between the lowest failing grade and the highest grade.
UCPH uses this method for calculating the GPA across countries, which ensures equal treatment of all grading systems.
I have a double degree. Should I upload two separate GPA calculation sheets?
You must submit a separate calculation sheet for each degree. After calculating your GPA in the different sheets, you must calculate your final GPA in %. You calculate your final GPA in % by combining your results from all sheets and divide the combined number with the number of sheets you used.
Example:
Sheet 1: 76 %
Sheet 2: 68 %
76 % + 68 % = 144 %
144/2 = 72 % = Your final GPA in %
You must submit all calculation sheets you used along with an explanation of your calculations, i.e. that you hold a double degree.
My grades are not all in the same grading scale. What do I do?
If you obtained grades in different grading scales, you must use a separate calculation sheet for each of the grading scales. Each sheet must contain course title, credits and grade. After calculating your GPA in the different sheets, you must calculate your final GPA in %. You calculate your final GPA in % by combining your results from all sheets and divide the combined number with the number of sheets you used.
You must submit all calculation sheets you used along with an explanation of your calculations, i.e. that you obtained grades in different grading scales.
My grades are in a letter scale. How can I use the calculator?
You can only add numbers in the calculator and therefore you must convert your letter grading scale into a numeric scale. The scale must go from the highest grade to the lowest passing grade.
You convert a letter scale into a numeric scale by counting the number of all passing grades. The total number of passing grades is the highest grade in the numeric scale, the next highest number is the second highest grade and so on till you get to the lowest passing grade.
This example shows a letter scale converted into a numeric scale. There are 8 passing grades in total which means the scale goes from 8 to 1 with 8 being the highest grade and 1 being the lowest passing grade.
A+ = 8
A = 7
A- = 6
B+ = 5
B = 4
B- = 3
C = 2
D = 1
If you had to convert your grading scale, please submit a document explaining you converted it.
My degree includes pass/fail grades, narrative grades, or distinction grades. Should I input them into the calculator?
You should omit these grades from the GPA Calculation Sheet, as it is only possible to input numerical grades.
You are welcome to upload a document that explains your calculations, should you find it necessary.
My calculated GPA in % is lower than my GPA from my educational institution?
The GPA calculator calculates the GPA in a scale from 0-100 %. If your GPA from your educational institution is calculated in another scale, there will be a difference between your calculated GPA in % and your GPA from your educational institution. Your calculated GPA in % still reflects your academic results and your GPA from your educational institution.
Example:
Your GPA from your educational institution is 70 % in a scale from lowest passing grade 40 to highest passing grade 100.
Your calculated GPA in % will be 50 % as it is calculated in a scale from lowest passing grade 0 to highest passing grade 100.
